Productive Use of Electricity

Productive Use of Electricity

Productive use (PU) of electricity refers any activities carried out by the utilization of electrical energy for income/employment generating purposes.

A general approach to define PU of electricity can be-“agricultural, commercial and industrial activities involving electricity as a direct input to the production of goods or provision of services”.

The Project-“Promotion of Productive Use of Electricity in Community Rural Electrification Entities of Nepal”

NACEUN has recently been involved in the pilot project- “Promotion of PU of Electricity in Community Rural Electrification Entities (CREEs) of Nepal”. This project, supported by Endev/GIZ and implemented by NACEUN in co-ordination with HELVETAS Swiss Interco-operation has been carried out in 4 CREEs- 3 from Syangja district and 1 from Banke district.

In the second phase, the PU promotion has been extended to 5 new CREEs that includes 2 CREEs in Tanahun, 1 CREE in Syangja and the remaining 2 in Banke district.

Promotion of PU of electricity (PUE Promotion)

PU Promotion refers any activity that increases the productivity of electricity users. In our context, the CREEs should play an active role in bringing forward the productive use of electricity in their working area.

Some of the rural enterprises that can be started by using electricity are as follows-

Rice/ Flour Mill

Furniture

Grill workshop

Milk processing

Poultry farming

TV repairing center

Cold storage

Lapsy candy processing

Spice mill, etc.
